Wilbert “Buddy” Joseph Champagne

     THERIOT – Wilbert “Buddy” Joseph Champagne, 87, a native and resident of Theriot, LA passed away on September 9, 2021 at 7:42 PM.

     Family and friends of the family are invited to visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 9:00am until service time.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Chauvin Funeral Home at 11:00am.  Burial will be at St. Eloi Cemetery in Theriot, LA.

     Wilbert “Buddy” Joseph Champagne is survived by his children - Taryn Mader (Randy), Gregory Champagne, Katrina Champagne, and Leslie Griffin (Jimmy); grandchildren - Lorena Grant (Kevin), Stephanie Hinderberger (Anthony), Jay Voisin (Candice), Ashton Mader (Tiffani), Gordon Voisin (Erica), Amy Denton (Timothy), Ashley Clement (Brandon), Buddy Griffin (Candice), and Stephen Mader Jr.; twenty-two great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister – Vivian Theriot (Herbert).

     “Buddy” is preceded in death by his wife – Claire Rose Voisin Champagne; parents – Romain and Theresa Rose Theriot Champagne; daughter – Aleta Champagne; two brothers; four sisters; two great grandchildren.

     “Buddy” was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.  He served in the Marine -Corps for 4 years beginning in 1953.  In 1957, he married his wife – Claire Rose.  He worked as a carpenter and laid floors until he went to work in the oil industry.  In 1972, his family moved to Holland and England while he worked for McDermott.  In 1977, he returned home to Theriot to build his own business – Buddy’s Hardware Store.  When he retired around 1991, he spent his life with his family.

     “Buddy” was kind, generous, and a hardworking handyman.  He enjoyed telling stories and making others laugh.  “Buddy” was a spiritual man who was active in the Catholic Church.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
