Velma Matis

January 14, 1932 — June 19, 2021

Velma Marie Caillet Matis, age 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 19, 2021. She was a native of Hahnville and a resident of Houma, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with burial following in Terrebonne Memorial Park.

Velma is survived by her sons, Kyle J. Matis, Thane T. Matis and wife, Donna, and Joey A. Matis and wife, Cheryl; daughters, Susan M. Laughlin, and Jody M. Eskine and husband, Kenneth; grandchildren, Tory Bienvenu, Stacie Brunet, Bart Matis, Matt Matis, Seth Modrynski, Allison McAlpin, Jair Matis, Kendall Eskine, Sean Eskine, Stephen Matis, Michael Matis, Elizabeth Harrington, and Jade Modrynski; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Arthur Matis; parents, Syl Elie and Elise Marie Troxler Caillet; daughter-in-law, Margo Matis; son-in-law, Pat Laughlin; grandchildren, Joed Matis, Cody Matis; great-grandchild, Evan Matis; brothers, Syl F. Caillet, and Marcelin "Jack" Caillet; sisters, Cecil Donnaud, Evelyn LeBlanc, Virginia Caillet, Elise Young, and Pearl Baudoin.

Velma was a faithful catholic who was devoted to her family. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their heart felt gratitude to her caregivers as well to the staff and nurses of both Haydel Memorial Hospice and the Homestead Assistant Living.
