Ulysse Charles Guidry, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Ulysee was a longtime resident of Houma. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith", 2nd Timothy.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Bayou Black Cemetery.
Ulysse is survived by his wife, Miriam Domangue Guidry; children, Phyllis Babin (Raymond), Deborah Hurst, Cindy Gouner (Robert "Mike"), Ulysse C. Guidry, Jr. (Terry); grandchildren, James Babin (Beth), Laura Young (Bobbie), Katherine Gouner, Steven Gouner (Rebecca), Ashley Simoneaux (Alex), Paul Guidry (Shelby), Phillip Guidry, Patrick Guidry, Amanda Guidry, Allison Guidry, Aubrie Guidry; 13 great grandchildren with another one due in November; brothers, Donald Guidry (late wife Diane), Dr. Gary Guidry (Ellen), Ralph Guidry (late wife Cheryl).
Ulysse is preceded in death by his 1st wife of 53 years, Bonnie Bergeron Guidry; parents, Rene Charles and Marguerite Bonvillain Guidry; brothers, Gerald (Rose) Guidry, and Ronald "Black" Guidry; son-in-law, Oscar "Jimmy" Hurst, Jr.
Ulysse was a great family man, business man, Army veteran and also contributed to the community and church. Some of his accomplishments include being a member of the Untied States Army 101st Airborne Division, President of Guidry Electrical Contractors with wife Bonnie by his side. He was also elected to the Terrebonne Parish Council from 1984 - 1988 and was on the Houma-Terrebonne Airport Commission for many years. Ulysse was also a longtime parishioner, usher, Eucharistic Minister, Pastoral Council Member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Bayou Black. He was also appointed to the Electrical Board of Adjustment and Appeals, and the Louisiana Technical College Advisory Committee. Ulysse was also king of the Krewe of Christopher Carnival Organization.
Ulysse's pastimes were hunting, fishing, golfing, woodworking, and tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. His greatest joy came from family gatherings with his children, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
We are sad that he is no longer with us. He is now reunited with Bonnie, his heavenly family. May he rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
