Sydney Margaret LeCompte Sheffield, 100, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 8:03AM. She was a native of Bourg, LA and a resident of Houma, LA.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Houma, LA from 9:00AM until service time. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 11:00AM. Burial will follow services in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.
Sydney is survived by her daughters, Susan S. Nusynowitz (Martin), Jane S. Cunningham (Philip); daughter-in-law, Gwen LeBlanc Sheffield; grandchildren, Kelly Cupero (Hamil), Emily Barrow (Patrick), Christina Knight (Thomas), Wendy Rome, Roy K. Sheffield (Angel), Nicole Foret (Dennis), Sally Fortenberry (Charles); eight great grandsons and nine great grand-daughters; and two great-great grand-daughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sydney is preceded in death by her husband, Roy K. Sheffield; parents, Joseph LeCompte and Emily B LeCompte; son, William “Bill” Sheffield; brothers, Clifford LeCompte, Bailey LeCompte, Rodolph LeCompte; sisters, Estelle Jacobs, Inez Patterson, Athalie Oubre, Anna LeCompte, Emma LeCompte, and Florence LeCompte; and great grand-daughter, Madelyn Knight.
Sydney retired with the State of Louisiana serving as the secretary for Judge Morris Lottinger. She later worked for many years in the insurance industry.
Sydney enjoyed gardening, candy making, baking, her Easter BBQ’s, and reading. She was a great cook and was known for her award winning pralines. She most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends; never forgotten and always forever loved.
