Simms Martin Brouillette, 89, passed away on the morning of September 7, 2017. He was a native of Abbeville, LA and a resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be at Chauvin Funeral Home on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 9:00AM until service time. A Liturgy of the Word will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Chauvin Funeral Home at 12:00PM. Burial will follow services in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2. Simms is survived by his son, Stanley Martin Brouillette and wife Tammy Coulon Brouillette; and one grandson, David Martin Brouillette. Simms is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Perry Brouillette; parents, Etienne Steve Brouillette and Susie Agnes Waits Brouillette; brothers, Etienne Steve Brouillette and Earl Vincent Brouillette. Simms was married to his beloved wife for sixty-six years. He was a veteran of the United States Army who served three years in the U.S. Constabulary in occupied Germany. Upon his return from Germany, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, LA. After moving to Houma, LA he enjoyed a long teaching career. He loved his students and his students loved him. He had an uncanny ability to remember his former students and took great pride in their accomplishments. Mr. Simms loved to bring his humor and wit into the classroom. His goal was to make learning enjoyable for his students. Most of his career was spent teaching at Legion Park Elementary and St. Matthews Episcopal School.
