Russell Anthony Poiencot, 88, died on Friday April 14, 2017. He was a native of Bayou Dularge and a lifetime resident of Houma. Visitation will be held on Thursday April 20, 2017 at St. Eloi Catholic Church, Bayou Dularge from 9 to 11 am, with mass to follow. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Russell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vita Fazzio Poiencot; his children Pamela Harvey and her husband Keith, Rosalind Haney and her husband Mike, Russell Poiencot, Jr., Guy Poiencot and his wife Phyllis, Terry Poiencot and his wife Vickie, Lisa Hebert and her husband Andre; Russell Theriot who was like a son; his brother Al Poiencot; his grandchildren Ryan and Shawn Harvey, Thomas and Brian Haney, Rusty James Poiencot, Brad and Lauren Poiencot, T.J. and Kristy Poiencot, Taylor and Hunter Hoob, Chelsie H. Kelton; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Enos and Celine Poiencot; his sisters Nell Bienvenu and Joyce Dietrich; his brothers Mac and Burt, and his daughter-in-law Eileen Poiencot. He was an Air Force veteran and served in World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Regional Military Museum, which he helped to start, and where he volunteered for many years until his health declined. He retired from Shell Oil and was president of the Cajun Shell Retiree Club. Russell enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, and golfing. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be remembered for his generosity and wit. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
