Richard Sonnier, Jr.

Richard Louis Sonnier Jr., 80, passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home at 4:25PM, Wednesday, December 5, 2018. He was a native of Eunice, LA and a resident of Houma, LA.

Family and friends of the family are invited to attend visitation at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Houma, LA on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 9:00AM until service time. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin following visitation at St. Bernadette Church beginning at 11:00AM. Burial will take place in Morgan City Cemetery at 2:30PM.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Egle Sonnier; children, Richard III and wife Debbie, Raymond and wife Andrea, Joseph and wife Stephanie, Guy and wife Michelle, David and wife Tiffany; twelve grandchildren, Richard, Celia, Amanda, Gabriel, Brennan, Kristen, Emily, Scott, Bryant, Guy, Madelene, and Ella; two great grandchildren, Rosemary and Eli Sonnier; three sisters, Claire Robichaux, Marcelle Ellerby, Caroline Dudek.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Sr. and Alma Martin Sonnier; and sister, Annette Domingue.

Richard loved his grandchildren and family. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Abbey and USL with a Masters in Mathematics. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Richard had a talent for sharing good stories and cooking many meals while surrounded by his loving family and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Dickie Haydel, Haydel Memorial Hospice, and Dr. Richard Abben.
He will be remembered by all who knew him, never forgotten and always loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St Joseph’s Abbey at 75376 River Road, Saint Benedict LA 70457.
