Paul Wiley Fournier, Jr., age 81, passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 4, 2019. He was a lifelong resident of Houma, LA.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home on Monday, January 7, 2019, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday January 8, 2019, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Bayou Blue beginning at 9:00 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held in St. Mary Nativity Catholic Cemetery in Raceland, LA.
Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pamela Anne Naquin Fournier, son, Marcel P. Fournier (Stephanie), daughter, Annette F. Robichaux (Vance), of San Antonio, TX; brother Melvin Fournier (Charlene); grandchildren Ashley F. Minchew (Ben), Jacob P. Fournier (Brooklyn), Madison A. Fournier, Anna Claire and Joshua Robichaux; great-granddaughter, Rowyn Minchew.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Wiley Fournier, Sr. and Lucina Boquet Fournier; daughter Anne Marie Fournier; brother, Gene Fournier and wife, Judy.
Paul served the community throughout his life. As a young man, he worked as a swim instructor, life guard, and manager of several local swimming pools. He was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was an educator for over 30 years and served as Superintendent of Terrebonne Parish School System for 8 years. He served as a Regional Director for the State Department of Education for 10 years. Paul was a faithful member of the YMCA where he swam daily. He also served on several local and state boards. He enjoyed outdoor activities and spending time and vacationing with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Haydel’s Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Leukemia Society.
