Norman Joseph Simon, a beloved husband, caring father, devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on October 29, 2024. He was 91 years old.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to honor and celebrate Normans life on Wednesday, November 6, 2024; at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian burial at 12:00 p.m. Military Honors will be rendered at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis cemetery No. 2.
Norman is survived by his children; Michele Simon; Raymond Simon and wife, Kendra Develle Simon; son-in-law, Irwin LeBlanc; grandchildren, Sr. Deo Gratias, Douglas, Kenneth (Sara), Grace (Chad), Gregory (Micaela), Jacob, and Owen; great grandchildren, Arabella, Brooklyn, Arthur, Bernard, Evangeline, Regina, Emma, Avery, and 2 on the way; and his 2 grand dogs, David and Hope.
Norman is preceded in passing by his loving wife of 65 years, Jeanette Legendre Simon; by his daughter, Monique LeBlanc; his parents, Aubin Louis Simon and Ethel Marie Waguespack Simon; and his brother, Jerry Simon.
Norman was born on June 10, 1933, in Bogalusa, LA to Aubin and Ethel Simon. He moved to Houma in 1942. He joined the U.S. Army on June 27, 1956. On November 11, 1958, Norman and Jeanette were married at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma, LA. After his time in the Army, Norman worked as an insurance agent and inside salesman. He loved his community and volunteered for BARR (Bayou Area Readiness) for 15 years, Recover-Assist Hurricane Victims for 13 years, and was a Ham Operator for Bayou Cane Emergency Radio for 15 years.
Norman had a deep fondness for outdoor activities. He enjoyed walking, playing tennis, shooting, hunting, and fishing. His most treasured accomplishment was the amount of distance he walked from age 64 until he was 89. He averaged 1000 miles per year, totaling 25,000 miles, which is a little more than the distance around the world at the equator. Norman also enjoyed singing in the church choir at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. His favorite memories were always the moments he was able to spend with his family on their annual vacation. Some of his greatest attributes were his fidelity to God, family, his job, and his country.
His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In this time of sorrow, may we find solace in the memories we shared with Norman and hold onto the love he so generously bestowed upon us. He will forever remain in our hearts as an embodiment of compassion, warmth, and unwavering devotion.
Forever remembered, forever missed. Rest in peace, dear Norman.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Rita Legendre (sister-in-law), Denise McCarty (God-child), Lillian Dupre, Calvin Ordoyne, Jr., and the Terrebonne Parish Council on Aging for their assistance, compassion, and care for Norman.
Chauvin Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Norman Joseph Simon.
