Myrtle Eve Louviere Blanchard, 103, went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus on April 30, 2017. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houma from 9:00 a.m. until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, La. She was born on March 17, 1914 in Schriever, La. to Domithilde Guillotte and Pierre Paulin “Alexandre” Louviere, the twelfth of 13 children. Her mother, father and siblings all predeceased her. Despite orphaned at an early age, the Lord provided her with love caretaking families especially the Prager family of New Orleans with whom she lived. As a parishioner of Holy Rosary Parish, she was an Honorary Member of the Ladies Altar Society Myrtle dearly desired to be a nurse to care for others. She was a graduate of Mercy Hospital 1944 and became a Cadet Nurse with the U.S. Army becoming a Second Lieutenant serving from 10/9/44-1/2/46. After WWII she served as a nurse at Mercy Hospital, the U.S. Post Office and Urusuline Academy in New Orleans. She married the late John Blanchard, who predeceased her in 1983. She had numerous nieces and nephews whom she blessed and loved dearly, all who loved her in return. Though she never had any children, the closest to being her own was her loving Godchild, Nancy Brouillette. Everyone that knew her called her Aunt Myrtle. She moved to Houma to live out he years where she met Sue LeBlanc, who became a very dear and faithful friend who selflessly took personal care of Myrtle for several years.
