Mavis Ortego

November 20, 1930 — October 23, 2020

Mavis Fontenot Ortego, 89, a native of Ville Platte and resident of Houma, died on October 23, 2020, after an eleven-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home Tuesday October 27, 2020 from 10:30 AM until service time at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery #2.

She is survived by her four children: Ronald Jr. and Janice Ortego, of Luling; Steve and Helen Ortego, of Houma; Stephanie and Wayne Fulin, of Sugar Land, Texas and Tim Ortego of Houma. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty years, Ronald Ortego, Sr, her parents Savio and Amalie Catorie Fontenot, three brothers and three sisters.

Mavis was a loving wife, cherished mother and grandmother. She enjoyed many hobbies; but was best known for her love of sewing and passion for gardening. She was a member of the Broadmoor Garden Club where her beautiful yard was often show cased and she won several awards. She enjoyed playing tennis and Bunko with friends. Mavis especially enjoyed her days fishing and golfing with her husband and was a proud member of the Women’s Golf League at Ellendale.

She was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Bernadette Catholic Daughters’ Group.
