Mary Martin

Mary Martin, 73, passed away on October 11, 2017, at 7:20 AM. She was a native and resident of Chauvin, LA. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Chauvin Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Monday, October 16, 2017 from 9:00 AM until service time. A Liturgy of the Word will begin on Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow services in St. Elie Cemetery in Chauvin, LA. Mary is survived by her loving husband Ruffin Martin; children, Ruffin Martin Jr. (deaf son), Ramona Martin Hemphill and husband Tony, Rudy Martin and wife Katey, Rhonda Martin Clement and husband Mike; sisters, Rosalie Prosperie Dupre and husband Norbert, Geraldine “Gerry” Prosperie Dupre and husband Samuel. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive Mary. Her parents, Louis Esteff Prosperie and Ida Marie Trahan Prosperie; son, Rodney Paul Martin; brother, Eudras Prosperie, and an infant grandchild preceded her in death. Mary had an abundance of love for her children and grandchildren. She lived vicariously through them; Always offering her many trinkets and toys collected over the years. Mary was a traditional housewife who enjoyed hobbies such as flower arranging and other crafts.  Her passion for the arts allowed her to run a small business for several years.  As Mary’s children began to leave the nest, Mary and Ruffin decided to move to Cocodrie to enjoy the retirement life of fishing and relaxing. Mary also worked as a shrimp processing hand. Mary has overcome so much. You know I bet it feels good to have the weight of this world off your shoulders now. The day has come; surrounded by his glory.  This is not goodbye. So, save a place for me. Chauvin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Martin family.
