Martha Carlos

April 17, 1931 — December 30, 2018

Martha Matherne Carlos, age 87, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 30, 2018. She was a native of Des Allemands and a resident of Luling.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling on Friday, January 4, 2019 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery No. 2 in Houma.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Marsh (Philip); sons, Timothy Carlos (Lisa), and Jay Carlos (Nancy); grandchildren, Michelle Garibay (Robert), Matthew Huff, Jon Carlos, Ashleigh Seneca (Tyler), Courtney Vu (Adam), Dana Edwards (Michael), Lauren Liu (Thomas); great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Juliet Garibay, Charlotte Seneca, Ella Vu, Lily Edwards, and one boy on the way; and her loving sister, Clothilde Dempster.

Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charles Carlos; parents, Roger and Bertha Matherne; sister, Carrie Loupe; brothers, Vincent and Landry Matherne.

Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married Charles Carlos on July 5, 1952. They started a beautiful family and she was proud to have cared for them for many years. She was caring, loving, compassionate, selfless and courageous. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them, which included watching LSU football and baseball and the Saints. Martha received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the age of 41, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She retired from the St. Charles Parish Public School System after 25 years of service. Martha leaves a rich legacy behind. She was a spirited woman and will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves this world behind to be reunited with her husband and now rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
