Larry Matherne

October 11, 1939 — March 28, 2018

Larry Eustace Matherne, 78, a native of Houma, passed from this life to begin his journey into the arms of God on March 28, 2018.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, April 7, 2018, visitation from 12 pm till service at 2 pm, with burial in Terrebonne Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Bowen Matherne, daughter, Gina Matherne Fanguy (Barry) and son, Stephen Scott Matherne (Larinda), Grandchildren, Alexis Knight (Ben), Courtney Fanguy, Barry A. Fanguy, Christina Matherne Hector (Dwayne), and Suzanne Matherne. Great grandchildren, Mariah Brandon, Madeline Hector, Jude Hector, Leyton Knight, Aidan Knight. Brothers Glynn N. Matherne, Lance R. Matherne (Teresa), Vaughn E. Matherne, Mark S. Matherne (Susan). Sisters, Linda Ledbetter (Don), Deanna Webb (Tommy), Winona Hebert (Craig), Debra Fabre (Chris). Brother- in- law, Richard C. Bowen (Cathleen) and sister- in- law, Beverly Bowen. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the local area and US.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eustace Matherne, mother Velia Dupre Matherne Pavlu.

Larry joined the Air Force after high school in 1957 and spent two years stationed in Japan, where he met Judy, his wife of 55 years.

Larry was founder of Matherne & Matherne Drafting Services, Inc in 1975 with his brother Lance and later brother Mark. He earned his notary certificate in 1987. His greatest joy was his children, grand and great grandchildren. He was a very proud Dad and Papa.   He was well known by his family and friends for his sense of humor (he always said he excelled in sarcasm).   He later developed his love for woodworking and made many crafts and furniture for friends and family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.  

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Houma or a charity of your choice.
