John Kinabrew Tipton, Sr., 78, passed away peacefully in his home on October 5, 2024. John was a native of Bastrop, LA, and a resident of Houma, LA.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, October 11, 2024, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Houma, LA. from 9:00am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Francis Cemetery No. 2.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosalie Authement Tipton; sons, John Kinabrew Tipton, Jr. and his wife Karla, Jeffrey Etienne Tipton and his wife Krystal; grandchildren, Taylor Britt and husband Sam, Samuel, Nathan, Lucas, and Madelyn Tipton; great grandchildren, Beck and Hanson Britt; nephews, Fletch and Chris Ashcraft; brother-in-law, Donald Authement and wife Suzanne, and sisters-in-law, Jane Authement and Barbara Authement.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, Benjamin Rupert and Madelyn Kinabrew Tipton; sister, Peggy Ashcraft; brother, Benjamin Tipton, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Wyche Ashcraft, Dr. Ray Authement, Ronnie Authement, Charles Page, and Gerald Dill; sisters-in-law, Nell Page, Norma Dill, and Iva Nell Tipton.
John graduated from Bastrop High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He completed his Master's Degree and Plus 30 at Nicholls State University. John moved to Houma in 1969 where he taught in the Terrebonne Parish Public School System for 20 years. After retiring, he continued his teaching career at Vandebilt Catholic High School for 14 years. John dedicated his professional life to shaping young minds and leaving a lasting impact on countless students.
He enjoyed keeping up with high school and college sports, cooking, listening to music, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family would like to thank all his doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends and neighbors who provided unwavering support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or any charity of your choice.
