John J.R. Russell Moise, former educator for the Terrebonne Parish school system, passed away on Aug. 20, 2018. He was 88 years old. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Russell Moise and Julie Thibodaux Moise. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Joan Ellen Richard Moise; his daughters from his previous marriage, Cheri A. Moise of Glendale, California; and Lauren M. Wood of Houston, Texas; and son-in law, Spencer Wood, of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Cecelia L. Graf of Seattle, Wa.; Eugenie V. Graf of Centralia, Wa.; Julietta A. Santoy and Perrine A. Santoy of Houma; as well as his beloved granddaughter, Haley Clark.
Survivors also include his brother, Charles Gregory Moise and wife, Sandra Lee Moise of Houma; and a host of relatives and friends.
Russell graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and worked for Shell Oil in Deer Park, Texas. He built his own catamaran and enjoyed cruising the Gulf waters. Later, he returned to Houma, where he taught engineering courses at Nicholls State University; after which, he taught math at Oaklawn Junior High School and South Terrebonne High School for over 20 years.
Russell will be remembered for his love of family, spiritual depth, endearing sense of humor and insatiable sweet tooth.
