Huey "Billy" Hebert, Sr.

April 20, 1936 — May 22, 2018

Huey Joseph "Billy" Hebert, Sr., aged 82 years, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma, passed away Tuesday May 22,2018 at 5:45 PM.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel Magnolia of Chauvin Funeral Home on Saturday May 26, 2018 from 10 AM until service time. Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at 2 PM with interment to follow in St. Francis DeSales Cemetery II.

Mr. Billy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty J. Stoufflet Hebert; sons, Dale Hebert and Freddie and wife Celeste Hebert; daughter, Lana and husband Dallas Freeman, brother, Cleo Hebert; sister, Marie H. Dupre; grandchildren, Huey J. Hebert,III., Kristie H. Speilhagens, Chassie , Nakkia and Donnie Hebert, Jr. Larry Freeman, Jr., Leslie Young, Dallas Freeman, III., Caitlin Key and Freddie Hebert, Jr. , 10 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandson.

Mr. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, LuDovic and Cecile Carlos Hebert; sons, Huey Jr., and Donnie Hebert, Sr.; brothers, Berwick, Jimmie, Morrie, LuDovic, Jr., Walter, Leroy, Freddie, Edward, Albert and Charlie Hebert; and sisters, Angeline H. LeBoeuf, Bessie H. Crochet, and Cecile H. Nelton.

Mr. Billy joined the working world at age 14, washing cars on the corner of Barrow Street and West Park Avenue. At age 22, he ventured into the body and fender works for the next 45 years, prospered well adding a salvage yard in the early 1970’s and worked the yard until one month before his passing. He owned Hebert’s Used Cars, Tunnel Used Cars and was a member of the Wreckers’ Association. He was a self-made man and major advocate for vocational skills, training numerous auto body technicians that are still practicing today. He loved to fish, hunt and was an accomplished skeet shooter and excellent billiards player. In his hayday, Billy was the major repair shop performing frame repair in the tri-parish area. He had a major repoire with salvage yards from coast to coast and extending from the tip of Louisiana to Canada.

Mr. Billy was loved by family and friends and especially riding the grandchildren on his back and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
