Helen Radau

Helen Byrd Radau, 87, a native of Vicksburg, Mississippi and a longtime resident of Houma, Louisiana, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Helen was a kind, loving, and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was faithfully and fiercely devoted to her family. She spent her life caring for others, sacrificially taking care of family members when they needed it. Helen was an incredible cook who never tired of feeding her family and friends. She and her husband traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting family out of state. Everyone who knew her loved her and felt loved by her. Helen will be greatly missed, more than words can express. She is survived by her four children, Tony Little and wife Koleen of Tennessee, Benny Little and wife Kay of Houma, Willie Radau III and wife Shela of Houma, and Lisa Turner of Florida; brother, Wiley (Nancy) Byrd of Prairieville; sisters, Grace Little of Brookhaven, Mississippi and Linda (Ted) Szwedt of New Orleans; fourteen grandchildren, Toni (David) Thibodeaux, Heather (Bryan) Clark, Shane (Lori) Little, Jason (Shara) Navarrate, Bryan Little, Katie (Barry) Lirette, Melanie (Joseph) Provost, Helena (Chris) Robertson, Keely Radau, Gwen Little, Fred (Amber) Little, Harvey (Melanie) Sharp III, and Joshua Sharp; twenty-three great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W.C. “Dub” Radau; her parents, B.Z. Byrd and Allie Byrd Hutchinson; three brothers, B.Z. Byrd Jr., John Byrd, and Earl Byrd; five sisters, Lillian Byrd, Anita McDaniel, Theda Fay Ransbottom, Hazel Favre, and Libby Walker; and grandson, Willie Radau IV. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Gray, Louisiana.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Helen’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Chauvin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Radau family.
