Gregory Steele

Gregory Francis Steele, 74, passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 21, 2018 at 9:37PM. He was a native of California, and a resident of Houma, LA.

Family and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM in the Magnolia Chapel at Chauvin Funeral Home and visitation will continue on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at the funeral home beginning at 9:00AM until Celebration of Life Service at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at Terrebonne Memorial Park in Houma.

Gregory is survived by his loving Wife of 31 years, Carrie Levron Steele; daughter, Karen S. Detwiler and husband John; son, Craig Steele and wife Kim; step-children, Karen Chauvin and husband Harvey; Amy Dow and husband Jim, Brian LeBoeuf and wife Angela; grandchildren, Thomas, Brandon, Katie, Sarah, Madison, James C., Kathrynn, James D., Ava, Shannon, Kaylee, Lacey, Rose, and E.J.; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Gwen Liner and husband Patrick; sister-in-law, Dale Steele, and brother-in-law, Mickey Songy. Gregory is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a lifelong friend, Stan Johnson and wife Paula.

Gregory is preceded in death by his father, Paul Richard Steele and mother, Mildred McElroy Duplantis and husband Ned; brother, Richard “Corky” Steele; sister, Patricia Songy; nephew, Curtis Steele; and niece, Rhonda Steele.

Gregory was a loving and caring man who adored his family and absolutely loved his grand- and great-grandchildren. Gregory had a great personality; he was fun, loving, caring, compassionate, and hardworking. For his pastime, he loved woodworking and fishing. Gregory served the community of Terrebonne Parish with 28 years of service in the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. He also served his country in the U.S. Army and in the National Guard with a combined 24 years of service. Gregory was also a lifetime member of the Lions Club International with his service to the Montegut Lions Club. Gregory leaves this world behind to be reunited with his family and was greeted with the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
