Godwin Joseph Sampey, age 91, died August 13, 2017 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. He was a native of Vacharie and a resident of Houma. Godwin is survived by his son, Bryan Sampey and wife Paula of Gig Harbor, Washington; brother, Nelson Sampey; grandchildren, Kevin Guidry of Seattle, Washington and Amy Guidry of Dallas, Texas; great-granddaughter, Eleanor “Ellie” Leigh-Guidry. Godwin is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Toffier Sampey, parents, Noah and Aline Breaux Sampey; brother, Bobby Sampey. Godwin was a loving husband, father, and brother. He had a great sense of humor and a wonderful personality, he never met a stranger and enjoyed life. He was very athletic and loved to run. Other than his family, Godwin was proud of his military background. He served in the Navy, WWII Veteran, and served in Okinawa; he served in the Air Force after WWII and stationed in Bermuda and Albuquerque, New Mexico. He then reenlisted in the Air Force Reserve in 1970’s until his retirement in 1984. Chauvin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Sampey family.
