Gloria “Blackie” Josephine Scott Benoit, 90, a native of Dulac, La. and resident of Houma, La. passed away on the evening of March 19, 2022. Miss Blackie, alongside her husband, Melvin Benoit Sr. started Sea Tang Fisheries, Inc., a successful shrimp processing company and were owners of several shrimping boats.
Visitations will be held in her honor on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at her home located at 6087 Grand Caillou Rd., Houma from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and the following day, Monday morning, also at her home, from 9:00am until 11:00am, where there will be a service to follow. After she will be laid to rest at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.
“Miss Blackie” is survived by her daughter, Monna Benoit Champagne and husband Kenneth; daughter-in-law, Marilyn C. Benoit; and her brother, Jeffery “Joe” Scott. She is also survived by grandchildren, Stacey Thibodeaux, Scott Benoit, Kullen Champagne, and Monet’ Muilenburg, and great-grandchildren, Luke, Gauge, Kensie, Lillian, and Austin.
“Miss Blackie” is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-nine years; Melvin Joseph Benoit Sr., her son, Melvin Joseph Benoit Jr., parents, Vincent Joseph Scott and Lorina Adele Pellegrin Scott; sisters, Delores Chaisson and Mercedes LeBlanc.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. G. Talluri, Kim Broussard and all the staff at Divinity Home Healthcare, Amedisys Home Healthcare, Acadian Ambulance paramedics and the Grand Caillou Fire Department for the excellent care given, and are grateful for the wonderful caretakers of both Blackie and Melvin, Joyce Neal, Suzette Hebert, Brandy Clark, Renette Reagen, Kayla Islas, Nolia Carrere, Shania Nelton, Phyllis Cotton, Monet’ Muilenburg, and Kullen Champagne, among others.
