Germaine was born on December 23, 1934 in Eunice, LA. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart at Grand Coteau. After High School, she attended both the University of Houston and LSU. Germaine met her husband, Carroll on a blind date while working at Thomas Moore Travel in New Orleans, LA. They married in 1959 and had two children, Stanton and Lauren. They were married fifty-two years, until Carroll’s death in 2011.
Germaine had a spark that always lit up the room. She had a beautiful smile that welcomed all. She lived a full life as a wonderful mother, wife, and homemaker. She was a devout Catholic; who’s faith carried her through her whole life. She was generous with her time; volunteering for various community organizations.
Germaine was a fantastic cook, loved to travel, and to play bridge. She looked forward to play bridge every week, but more than just the fun of playing, she loved her “Bridge Ladies”. They were her dear friends and they met the world to her.
Most of all, Germaine deeply loved her family. She instilled in them, by her great example, the gift of the Catholic Faith that was so dear to her.
For all that she was and all that she gave to us we are truly grateful. We were blessed by her. She will be deeply missed, always loved, and forever in our hearts.
Germaine is preceded in death by her parents, Anna Steele Fontenot and Alton Fontenot; her sister, Jean Fontenot Pucheu and her husband, Jack; and grandson, Nicholas J. Stidham.
