Gerald R. Martin, a native of Opelousas, Louisiana, and a resident of Houma, Louisiana, passed away on September 6, 2018, at 5 p.m. surrounded by his loving family.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Bernadette Catholic Church on Monday, September 10, 2018 with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery No. 2
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Deanna Neely Martin and his three children, William Bradford Martin and wife Diane, Marianna Martin Tabor, and husband Mitchell Tabor, and Melissa Martin O’Neal and husband David; grandchildren April Cheramie, Heather Martin, Hannah Martin Rebert, Amanda Martin, Bradley Breaux, Douglas Breaux, Brock Tabor, Christian O'Neal, Sarah O’Neal Depril, Abigail O'Neal Herrera, Laurie Smith, and Walter Smith. Great-grandchildren, Paul Danos, Kip Danos, Stella Norman, Delilah Martin, Pyper Rebert, Ashton Rebert, Leighton Breaux, Landon Breaux, Anna Smith, Hunter Smith, Alaina Smith, and Remi Depril.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Martin and Gladys Robin Martin, brother, Harold Martin, sister, Betty Martin Stelly and great granddaughter, Layla Francis Breaux.
Jerry was a retired engineer. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan. Baseball was the love of his life and after retiring he served as a volunteer coach both at Vandebilt Catholic High and E.D. White Catholic High. In 2005 he was inducted into the Vandebilt Hall of Fame. ln 2007 received a Volunteer Activist Award in appreciation for his outstanding service to the community. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.
