Gary LeCompte, Sr.

January 12, 1939 — March 18, 2018

Gary James LeCompte, Sr., age 79, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at his residence. He was a native of Grand Caillou and a longtime resident of Houma.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation in the Magnolia Chapel at Chauvin Funeral home on Friday, March 23, 2018 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friday. Visitation will resume at St. Bernadette Catholic Church on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery No. 2.

Gary is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bonna Jane Breaux LeCompte. His son, Barry P. LeCompte, Sr. and wife Rhonda; daughters, Chrystal LeCompte and companion Darren Price, Cherie Naquin and husband Todd; ten grandchildren, Kaydi and Jessie LeCompte, Barry LeCompte, Jr. and wife Kayla, Lacey Lirette and husband Joey, Bridget Fangue, Phillip Fangue and wife Jessica, Jacob Fangue and wife Rikki, Paige McGehee, Christopher Naquin and wife Jherah, Chelsey Trosclair and husband Cody, Tiffany Chiasson and husband Devon; Twenty great-grandchildren, Jamie Miles, Isabella Bergeron, Kanyon Cox, Leon LeCompte, Landon LeCompte, Cohen Lirtte, Killian Lirette, Chaz Boudreaux, Jr., Ethan Boudreaux, Bianca Boudreaux, Alexia Lirette, Gev Fangue, Gatsby Fangue, Wren Fangue Aubri Fangue, Cooper McGehee, Raymond McGehee IV, Jaxon Naquin, Landry Trosclair, Sophie Trosclair; great-great- granddaughter, Paisley Daigle; brother, Kenneth LeCompte and companion Sonia; sisters, Sandrea Rush and husband Keith, Katha Rogers and husband Danny.

Gary was preceded in death by his son, Gary J. LeCompte, Jr.; grandchildren, Gary LeCompte III, Raymond McGehee III, and Jessica McGehee; great-grandchild, Kaylia LeCompte; parents, William and Effie LeCompte.

Gary was a member of St. Bernadette Church for 60 years and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He worked for Texaco for 37 years. He was an assistant Drilling Supervisor in the New Orleans office on Poydras St. until his retirement, after retirement he worked for O.K. Fishing and Q.T.S. He was a member of St. Bernadette’s Knights of Columbus Co. 7355 and Father August Vanderbilt Assembly. He served as Grand Knight of council 7355, he was also a Faithful Navigator of Judge Adrian Caillouette Assembly and Father August Vanderbilt Assembly. Gary was chosen knight of the year and family of the year many times. Then was the Color Core Commander for August Vanderbilt Assembly. Gary was a past Grand Commander of the Order of Alhambra and was also the District Regional Director. In 2004, Catholic Charities for the National Volunteer of the year nominated Gary. In 2006, he was awarded the Volunteer Activist Award by the McDonald Home. Gary was a Marshall for the fourth degree for Houma-Thibodaux Diocese for 20 years. Upon retirement, he was given the title by the State Forth Degree of Marshall Emeritus. Gary Chaired the TARC Hayride for the Knights of Columbus 7355 for about 20 years. Gary was an active duck carver and won many awards, he belonged to South La. Duck Club and the Cajun Heritage Duck Club. You could always find him on Wednesday night in the duck carving shop with all his friends duck carving and having a good time, above all, he enjoyed spending time with his son, grandsons and great grandson teaching them carving skills and carrying on his carving traditions. He was a loving husband and an awesome dad. Gary took care of his children and grandchildren. He was always there for them when they needed help.
