Gardeline “Meno” Sharp, 94, passed away peacefully May 6, 2017. Born March 19, 1923 in Houma, LA to Charles and Henrietta Domangue, she grew up loving the fun times with her father on his boat, The Eagle, bringing in loads of shrimp. Needing to help run the family grocery/restaurant, she left high school early, later attending a New Orleans beauty college with her sister, Hilda. They enjoyed owning a beauty shop together, playing the piano and dancing between appointments. She married Roy Durand of New Iberia, LA and had one daughter, Dianna. Years later, she married Isaac “Bud” Sharp, Jr. in Houma, LA, having three children; Wayne, Carlyn and Connie. Her love of fashion led her to open The Flair, an upscale clothing store on Main Street in Houma. During that time, the Krewe of Hyacinthians was formed, the first ladies carnival club in Terrebonne Parish. She was crowned Queen Hyacinth I, the first queen of the Krewe in 1952.In the 60’s she moved her family to Biloxi, MS, where she owned The Fashion Bazaar clothing stores. Eventually moving back to Houma, LA, she became a real estate broker, owning Pixie Real Estate. In the 70’s, when her son decided to move to CA to pursue his music career, she packed her bags along with the rest of the family and joined him. We shared a home and music studio, entertaining many new friends. Her love of cooking and feeding everyone was greatly appreciated on the west coast! In the 90’s she came back to her home, the coast, to live out her life, enjoying and loving her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. With a family of musicians, she lived life to the fullest; attending many concerts, festivals, and shows they played. You could guarantee she would be dressed to the nines and dancing! Her love of life was contagious to all that was in her presence, making everyone feel special and encouraged. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Henrietta Domangue, her brothers, Herman “T-Man”, Nolan, and Chester; and her sister, Hilda.
