Francis J. “Jerry” Helluin age, 88, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 10:50 p.m. Jerry was a native of Donaldsonville, Louisiana and a resident of Houma, Louisiana. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 beginning at 8:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Bayou Black Cemetery. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Maude T. Breaux Helluin; daughters, Janis LeGros and Janet (G. Bruce) Thigpen, Leslie (Dana) Harless; son, Jay (Stella) and Jon Helluin; thirteen grandchildren, Tara LeGros, Greg Thigpen, Megan Scoles, Susie Thigpen, Brett, Kyle, and Erin Harless, James, Chris, Renee, Matthew, and Charissa Helluin; great-grandchildren, Paige and Piper Scoles, Lydia Helluin. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, James and May Dupre Helluin; son, David J. Helluin; son-in-law, Don LeGros; brother, Warren “Duck” Helluin ; grandson, Ryan LeGros. Jerry was a former terminal manager for Saia Motor Freight, He was a member of St. Anthony Council Knights of Columbus # 9338 and 4th degree assembly of August Vandebilt Council 2322 and enjoyed fishing and being at his camp in Toledo Bend. He was according to his family a “master bar-b-quer”. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony Parish. Mr. Jerry enjoyed an early career with the NFL, Cleveland Browns from 1952 to 1953, Greenbay Packers from 1954 – 1958, and Houston Oilers 1960 (AFL Champions). He was inducted into Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984. He was loved by all and will be missed by his family and friends. The family wishes to express a sincere thanks to Haydel Memorial Hospice.
