Eugene Folse

September 23, 1927 — January 19, 2018

Eugene Joseph Folse, 90, born September 23, 1927, entered into eternal life on January 19, 2018 at 12:15 pm.  He was a native of Napoleonville, LA and a resident of Houma, LA.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine Leonard Folse; six children—Michael Folse (Pam), Myrna Folse, Martin Folse, Amy Faciane (John, Sr.) of New Orleans, Elinor LeBoeuf (Kevin) and Leonard Folse; seven grandchildren who endearingly called him “Pop”—Dr. John L. Faciane, Jr. (Emily), Joshua Faciane, Mitchell Folse, Christian Folse, Sean Folse, Dominic LeBoeuf, Elise LeBoeuf, and one great grandchild, John L. Faciane, III.  He is survived by two sisters, Leonie Enos (CA) and Odette Toups (Thibodaux) and many nieces and nephews.
Eugene was preceded in death by his mother and father, Philonese Waguespack Folse and Hector Folse, Sr., brothers Hector Folse, Jr., Bernard Folse, and Roger Folse; sisters Yolande Toups, Maybelle Guedry, Marie Jeanne Savoie, Elsie Forest, and Babette Tullia, and one godson, Charles Tullia.
After completing his studies and graduation at LT High School, Eugene was drafted to serve his country in WWII, and then reenlisted for the Korean Conflict.  He is a Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, serving God and his country in the United States Navy.  Several years ago, The Eugene J. Folse Veterans Award was presented for the first time at the annual Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce Banquet.  Eugene was presented the first award by HTV on that same night and had the honor of presenting his namesake award to his good friend, War Hero and POW, Mr. Ray Marcello.  He was always ready and willing to defend his country and other veterans.  He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his fruit and vegetables with his family and friends.  He spent many hours relaxing on his back porch swing while reading and enjoying the fresh air.  His other favorite past times were watching old western movies and fishing, and he was always proud to bring his “catch” home.
Eugene can always be remembered for being quite a character;  joke after joke, story after story, clowning around with family and friends.  He loved people and conversing. He became an HTV personality with his many unscripted appearances from cooking shows to military events.  He was a proud member of “the greatest generation” and recognized and thanked by many military over the years.  Along with all of his humor, Eugene honored his God, family, community, and country.  This is his legacy.  These are the things for which he was proud.
Eugene served his church and community in several capacities.  He was a past Grand Knight of Council 1317 Knight of Columbus, and also held different offices of the Council.  He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Holy Name Society, St. Joseph Husband of Mary Society, past usher at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, a faithful participant and supporter of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral School, Vandebilt Catholic, and many other volunteer events.  He coached little league in his earlier years, which was an enjoyable challenge.  Eugene’s lifetime of service can be summed up in the words of St. Matthew, “Well done—good and faithful servant.”
We would like to thank Dr. Russell Henry, Dr. David Rau, Dr. Ben Adams, CCU Staff at TGMC for their loving and excellent care of Eugene throughout his final days.  We also wish to extend a special thanks to Bishop Shelton Fabre, Father Mark Toups, Father Jay Baker, Father Joseph Chacko, Sr. Miriam Mire, Prosper Toups, and Kerry Bueche (Voice of the Lord Ministries) for their many visits, spiritual guidance and words of consolation and support to Eugene and family.  We also wish to thank Pastor Duane Bland and Rene Monette, and all family and friends who so faithfully prayed for Eugene and family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24 at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral from 10:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM.  Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery #2.
