Dennis "Spice" Vegas

Dennis “Spice” Vegas, age 62, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 16, 2018. He was a native of Grand Isle and a resident of Houma.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation in the Magnolia Chapel at Chauvin Funeral Home on Thursday, December 27, 2018 beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the Memorial Liturgy of the Word at 12:00 p.m.

Spice is survived by his wife of 25 years, Libby Thibodeaux Vegas; son, Ben Portier and wife Katie; daughters, Chastity and husband Donny Pitre, and Sierra Vegas; granddaughters, Carli’ and Chloe’ Pitre; father, Herbert Vegas; brother, Luigi Vegas and wife Lisa; sister, Angel Vegas Blanchard and husband Toby; Godchild, Mark Pregeant II; nieces, Aly and Savannah Blanchard; nephew, Dominic Vegas; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Koda Bear.

Spice is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Henri Guidry Vegas; brother, Ricky Burnham; and Godchild, Dante’ Vegas.

Spice was a man of great faith. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who enjoyed spending time with his family. Spice had a beautiful personality and never met a stranger. He loved watching the Saints and LSU games, music, dancing, and relaxing on the beach. Spice was an educator. He had a love of learning and educating others. He taught karate for many years and was an inspiration to everyone he encountered. “I fought the good fight, and I’m leaving with pride.”
