Curtis Champagne

Curtis James Champagne, age 78, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021, in Mission, Texas where he lived for the past 17 years with his wife of 59 years.  He was a native of Bayou Dularge, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of his life at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, February 11, 2022, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in St. Eloi Catholic Church Cemetery.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Emily Antoinette Brunet Champagne; daughters, Brunella Neely and husband, Mike; Dawn Ericson and husband, Kevin; and Tanya Champagne; brother, Norman Champagne and wife, Ann; sisters, Renda Theriot and Evelyn Billiot; 5 grandchildren, Curtis (Elisabeth) Reynolds, Tyler Reynolds, Daphne Champagne, Kyle (Lauryn) Neely, Tiana (Kenneth) Bingham, and 7 great grandchildren.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, O’Neil Antoine Champagne and Elvida Dupre Champagne, brothers, Gary, Randolf, Glenn and Oneil, Jr., sisters, Brunella, Joy, and Gwen DeHart.

Curtis faced a long-term illness with courage, always maintaining a positive, happy demeanor and was an inspiration to many people.  He worked in the oil field in South Louisiana, in the North Sea and Libya.   He was a purchasing manager for Baker Oil Tools in Houston and “retired” to a chicken farm in Arkansas.  He and his wife then traveled full time in an RV for 7 years, spending one year in Anchorage, Alaska.  His love for travel never stopped, and he visited 48 states and all the Canadian Provinces. He loved to fish and play cards and is now enjoying the greatest adventure of them all.
