Berton Lyons, Sr.

Berton Jacob Lyons Sr., age 75, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 6, 2021. He was a native and resident of Chauvin, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, September 18, 2021, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Berton is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joann Marie Dupre Lyons; son, Berton J. Lyons, Jr.; daughters, Leslie L. Thibodaux and husband, Craig, and Michele L. Hebert and husband, Dwayne; brothers, Paul (Irene), Julius, and Malcolm (Sadie) Lyons; sisters, Felicia "Fee" (Wilton) Lirette, and Vera L. Picou; grandchildren, Angele H. (Craig Jr.) Theriot, Abbie N. Thibodaux, Julia C. Thibodaux, Luke M. Thibodaux; and great-grandchildren, Brighton R. Hermann and Braxton A. Theriot.

Berton was preceded in death by his parents, Paola Joseph Sr. and Ezilda Charpentier Lyons; daughter, Francis Lyons; brothers, Paola "Jr." (Mamie), Richard Sr. (Judy), and Michael Lyons, Sr.; sisters, Della L. (Walter) Lapeyrouse, Wilda "Teetsie" (Willis "Bay") LeBoeuf; sister-in-law, Mary Lee Lyons; and brother-in-law, Errol Picou.

Berton was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was the owner of the Burton L. supply boat and worked for Texaco most of his life. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Ward 7 Citizens Club, and the Did You Hear Rodeo. He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, shooting pool, playing cards with his family and friends and was an avid Saints fan. He was well known for sitting outside on the swing with a good cold beer and visiting with the neighbors. Pierre Street will never be the same.
