Barry P. Bonvillain, age 79, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Barry was a longtime resident of Houma, LA.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation in Magnolia Chapel of Chauvin Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Barry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elyrea Bourg Bonvillain; daughter, Denise Bonvillain Esponge and husband Norris, Jr.; son, Blaine Bonvillain and wife Robin; grandchildren, Cody, Derek, Hayley, Jared, Hilary, Norris III, Harleigh; great-grandchildren, Alisa, Dawson, Dayton, Jailynn, Kaleb, Jax, Myles, and Adaline; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Otecia Bonvillain and Anna Mae Bonvillain.
Barry is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Dousia Breaux Bonvillain; brothers, Charles Bonvillain, Dudley Bonvillain Sr., August Bonvillain.
Barry was a caring, loving, fun, generous man who loved his family and loved Terrebonne Parish. He retired as an independent agent from Prudential Life with twenty-five years of service. He then became Parish President of Terrebonne Parish serving two terms. Barry served as a member of the East Park Volunteer Fire Company and managed the Recreation and Community Center, volunteer coach for the Babe Ruth League, chairman of the Holy Rosary Church Fair, member of Terrebonne Sportsman’s League, proud veteran and member of the Marine Corp League. He proudly served Terrebonne Parish for twenty-one years. Barry’s pastime was fishing, hunting, visiting casinos and playing pedro with family and friends. Barry never met a stranger and now rests in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Due to Covid19 and CDC regulations, family and friends attending services are required to wear face masks and practice social distancing.
