Audrey Moore Cook passed away at home, surrounded by his family. He was a native of Columbia, Mississippi, the youngest child of Adolphus and Mae Moore Cook. A World War II veteran, he served in the Pacific with the US Navy. After military service, he graduated From University of Oklahoma with a degree in petroleum engineering, where he met and married Ann M. Engle. The couple moved to Houma in 1955 to pursue a career in the oil industry. Within a few years, Mr. Cook started the first of several companies including C&W Well Services, Inc. and Liquid Mud Barges, Inc. He also contributed to Houma’s growth as a founding member of and held key positions in Mulberry Baptist Church, American Bank and Trust, and Ellendale Country Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Ruby, Velma, Carl, Upton, Vernon and Glisten; by his wife of 70 years, Ann Engle Cook; and his son Dr. Mark Cook of Madison, Wisconsin. He is survived by sons, Byron Cook, Kent Cook and his wife Ann LeBlanc Cook; daughter-in-law, Dr. Ellen Burleigh Cook; grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) Lynn Cook Gahagan (Isla and Colin), LeighAnn and John Carmody (Tatum); Crague and Elysse Cook (Oliver and Bodin), Aimee Richard (Tyler and Cade), Nellie Cook, Romanda Cook, and Sophie Cook.
A private memorial service will be held by the immediate family at the Chauvin Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be scheduled for a later date as restrictions on social gatherings are lifted.
