Vincent Dagate Sr., 85, a native and resident of Houma, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2007. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maudry Domaingue Dagate; one son, Vincent Dagate Jr. and wife, Sally Cancienne Dagate; two daughters, Victoria "Vicki" LeBlanc and husband, Tracy Sr., and Rhonda Luke and husband, Patrick; one brother, Anthony John "A.J." Dagate; one sister, Frances Dagate Waldrip; eight grandchildren, Tracy LeBlanc Jr., Ricky LeBlanc Sr., Denise Holliday, Gregory "Greg" Luke, Chad Luke, Megan Dagate, Jessica Dagate and Amy Dagate; and eight great-grandchildren, Ricky Jr., Haley, Jacob and Hannah LeBlanc, Brett Wright and Dawson Holliday and Lillian and William Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Dagate and Victoria Callia Dagate; and one brother, Alex Dagate. He was a World War II Army veteran, decorated with the Purple Heart for injuries received in Normandy, France. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 3700. He founded Dagate’s Marine in 1949 and was owner of Nu-Royal Cleaners from 1966 to 1987. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Terrebonne Historical and Cultural Society and a member of TARC. He was one of the original donors of Our Lady of the Sea Statue at Last Island. He was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church and a member of the Liturgical Environmental Ministry. He was an honorary member of the Whiskey Pass Rodeo Association and a former member of the Terrebonne Sportsman’s League. In his younger days, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He cherished his Catholic faith, family, community and country. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to your favorite charity.
