Mary "Evelyn" Broussard Pontiff, 73, a native of Montegut and resident of Chauvin, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Monday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Chauvin. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years on Friday, Edward Joseph Pontiff Jr.; one son, Eric J. Pontiff and wife, Gail; four daughters, Wanda A. Pontiff, Karen P. Robichaux and husband, Louis J., Jerry P. Liner and husband, Reuben, of Houma and Theresa P. Lovell and husband, Jonathan, of Chauvin; three brothers, David and Jerome Broussard of Slidell, and Wayne Broussard of Mississippi; one sister, Devota B. Pye of Pensacola, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, Lonnie Hornsby Jr., Sean Horton, Angel P. Bergeron, Christie P. Bergeron, Lucille P. James, Stephen A. Pellegrin, April P. Dazee, Andee P. Dazee, Sarah P. Profit, Elizabeth P. Fonseca, Matthew Pontiff, Jessica M. Landry, Jonathon Lovell Jr., Brandon Lovell and Tiffany Lovell; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Krift Broussard; her father, Raoul Broussard; and two brothers, Gerald Broussard and Keith Broussard.
She was a member of the American Legion and Pass Chaplain of Unit No. 380, past area C President for 3rd District, past secretary for two different 3rd district presidents, past secretary for the Dept. of Louisiana President, past trustee for three years for the Woodmen of the World. She also contributed many hours of community service as representative of the WOW and the American Legion.
She enjoyed sewing for local schools for nativity plays and contributed volunteer work after Hurricane Rita, serving meals and cleaning supplies to victims of flooding while her own home had 5 feet of water.
She served several years as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol, flying as a spotter on search and rescue missions and was a member of the sheriff’s flying posse and Sheriff’s Office Coastal Rescue unit assisting on rescues on water.
She was retired as legal secretary for Indigent Defender Board.
