Kenneth Joseph Melancon, a native of Gray and resident of Houma, died peacefully in his home, Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church in Houma. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in St. Bridget Church Cemetery in Schriever. He is survived by his wife, Betty Duet Melancon of Houma; two daughters, Hope Scott and husband, Terry, of Gray and Melissa Bascle and husband, Matt, of Houma; three stepdaughters, Sharon Theriot and husband, Walt, of White Hall, Ark., Lynn Bonvillain of Lafayette and Beth Rowland and husband, Todd, of Austin, Texas; his mother, Bessie Prejeant Melancon of Gray; one brother, Phil Melancon and wife, Catherine, of Thomasville, Ga.; two sisters, Betty Bennett and husband, George, of Pensacola, Fla., and Emily Daye and husband, Jere’, of Houma; five grandchildren, Ashleigh and Darren Scott, Connor and Nicholas Bascle and Sarah Louise Marble; and six step-grandchildren, Sarah Beth and Kathryn Theriot, Annelise Bonvillain, Madison, Evan and Caroline Rowland. He was preceded in death by his father, George Melancon; and one son, John Melancon. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired field foreman with Amoco Production Co. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking and was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, who loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a parishioner of Maria Immacolata Catholic Church and a member of its Knights of Columbus Council. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Maria Immacolata Community Center Building Fund, 246 Corporate Drive, Houma, LA 70360.
