Geralyn Bergeron Dunckelman, 52, a native of Thibodaux and resident of Houma, passed away at her home on Friday, April 23, 2010 after a two month battle with uterine cancer.
A kind and loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother, she graduated from Vandebilt Catholic High School in 1975 and Nicholls State University in 1979 with a Master's Degree in education. She was a 29 year veteran of the Terrebonne Parish School system, having a celebrated teaching career in kindergarten and preschool classrooms.She was recognized by various nonprofits, corporations and governments for her resolve to help the less fortunate. Besides volunteering, Geralyn was an avid traveler, animal lover, and skilled cook.
She is survived by her husband William "Bill" Dunckelman; her two sons, Andrew, of Boston, MA, and William of Baton Rouge, LA; her father, Lucien Bergeron and 4 silbings - Melinda Peterson of Katy, TX, Brent Bergeron, Andreie Lassseigne, of Gramercy, and Marissa Bagala, of Lockport. She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy.
The wake will be held at Chauvin Funeral Home on Monday, April 26, 2010 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 9:00 AM until service time at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church with burial in St. Francis II Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
