Olga C. Engeron, 100 years old, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and supporters on February 28, 2017, Mardi Gras Day. She was born in Houma, the fourth of six children to William Jean Pierre Cenac and Marie Madeleine Bourgeois Cenac. She was a lifelong resident of Houma. She is survived by her sons, Dr. O’Neil Joseph Engeron and wife, Gloria (nee Latiolais) and Dr. Michael George Engeron and wife Janet (nee Rhodes). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Dr. Eric D. Engeron and wife Phyllis (nee Schmitz), Brian J. Engeron, Esq. and wife, Kristen (nee Ponthier), Karen E. Baker and husband, Mark, and Mark A. Engeron. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Gwyneth, Tina, Breanna, Bryce, Georgianna, Andrew, Andrea, and Evan. She was preceded in death by her parents (above) and five siblings, Ione C. Rucker, William (Bill) Cenac, Jr., Rita Mae Cenac Clark Hoffman, Philip L. Cenac, M.D., and Donald Cenac. She was particularly close to her sister-in-law, Dorothy S. Cenac. They did a lot together, including raising their combined eight children together. After having her two boys and working in various family businesses, Olga was employed at First National Bank of Houma for 34 years, retiring in 1984. She rose there to the position of Vice President and supervised three departments, including Bookkeeping, Proof, and Account Services. Many of the people who worked in banking in Houma began their careers there and trained under her. She subsequently volunteered at Terrebonne General Medical Center for over fifteen years. They offered her a job, but she declined. She then retired for good, devoting her time to her house, her yard, St. Gregory Church, friends, neighbors, but mostly family. She was a loving and giving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved family and we loved her and her cooking. She will genuinely be missed. We would like to express our deep appreciation to Olga’s Guardian Angel, Dr. Phyllis Schmitz, for being the daughter that Olga never had. You loved her and cared for her as only a daughter would have. Thank You! We would like to express our appreciation for all that Georgia Mae and John McDowell did for our mother over the last few years. Their care, generosity and attention will always be remembered. We would also like to thank the people who cared for our mother over the last 3 years; sitters, home health, hospice, and others. Her quality of life was greatly enhanced by your efforts and care. Visitation will be held at Chauvin Funeral Home on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and continuing on Monday, March 6, 2017 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery no. 2. Please come, say hello, say goodbye, and celebrate Olga’s hundred years of life and achievement with us. Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to serve the Engeron family.
