Amelia Cheramie

June 2, 1922 — February 2, 2017

Amelia “Mia” Plaisance Cheramie Amelia passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was welcomed to her Heavenly home and is now reunited with her Lord and Savior and her husband Clayo Cheramie. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church on Monday, February 6, 2017 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery No. 2 Amelia was blessed with a beautiful family, she is survived by her loving and caring daughter, Arlene Cheramie DeHart and husband Clinton; son, Wilson “Junior” and wife Sharon Lirette Cheramie. Amelia was a proud maw-maw, she loved and adored her only grandson, Antonio “Tony” Paul DeHart. They had a very special bond and Tony holds his maw-maw dear to his heart. She will be missed by her adoring cat, Mia. Amelia was married to the love of her life for fifty years and now reunites with him, Clayo Cheramie; son, Sydney Cheramie; parents, Cleophas and Helena Matherne Plaisance; brothers, Gustave, Volture, Mansey, Anthony, Leonce, Oville, and Hubert Plaisance; sisters, Cecile Dubois Toups, Leonise Gautreaux, Jeanne Lee, and Ena Rodriguez. Amelia was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and aunt. She often wondered about her purpose on earth since she was bedridden. Her purpose was to pray for each of her loved ones- which extended far beyond her biological family. Before she and her husband, Clayo, had children of their own, they would take nieces and nephews on yearly trips to the beach or the mountains. She loved having a house full of people and was always cooking a large meal. Until the very end, Amelia enjoyed the company of numerous nieces, nephews, and friends and would listen to and participate in their conversations. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Matherne and Family Doctor Clinic; Cardiovascular Institute of the South, Dr. Richard Abben, and the nurses of their Coumadin Clinic, Tina and Lainie; the Medical Team and Amelia’s special caregiver, Grace Nells; Houma Urgent Care; Terez Oubre, Saint Francis De Sales Meals for the Elderly committee; the Council on Aging, Amelia’s godchild, Gloria Martin Hooper for her help and phone calls; Leslie and Sheila Fleming Boudreaux for their support and pies; Amelia’s niece, Linda Toups Acosta and her husband Ronald who always made her laugh, fixed her hair, and brought her donuts. Amelia was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary unit 31; past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary, Knights of Columbus Auxillary, Krewe of Flames Carnival Club, and United Veterans League Chauvin Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cheramie Family.
