David Crochet, 83, a native and resident of Montegut, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Crochet Louviere and husband, Gary, of Houma, and Laurie Crochet Hyslop and husband, David, of Tenafly, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Dr. Leah Gonsoulin Jacob, David Earl Gonsoulin, and Jack Henry Hyslop.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia "Tootsie" Guidry Crochet; his parents, Henry Joseph Crochet and Mary "Lottie" LeBouef Crochet; and one brother, Merlin P. Crochet.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After his 39 year career with Texaco, he was appointed to the South Terrebonne Tidewater District (now the South Terrebonne Levee District) an organization whose work he felt passionate about. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the Montegut Children's Carnival Club, VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and a World War II veteran.
