James Edward Armstrong, 82, a native of Morris, Okla. and resident of Houma, passed peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, June 28, 2009.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Service will be noon Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his two sons, Mack Carmichael and wife, Deana, of Houma, and David Armstrong, of Houma; three daughters, Beulah Davis Crochet and husband, Lee; Kay Carmichael Giroir and husband, Don; and Jamie Armstrong Crowley, all of Houma; one sister, Marbara Pennington of Lawton, Okla.; six grandchildren, Danielle Davis Domangue, Justin K. Davis, Wendy C. Hirsch, Ryan P. Giroir, Jake A. Carmichael and Lindsey K. Carmichael; five great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Duplantis Davis of Houma; and beloved pets Gingerbread and Princess.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Norma Thibodeaux Armstrong; his parents, Issac and Williamina Schweikhard Armstrong; one son, James Kent Davis; four brothers, Leon Armstrong, Benjamin Armstrong, Lawrence Armstrong and Issac Jacob Armstrong; and five sisters, Merle Avo Davenport, Elsie Hubbard, Leora Lee, Viola Box and Ada Dunn.
He was a retired mechanic from Dow Chemical after 30 years and a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean war. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed going to his fishing camp, working in his garden and helping others.
