Adolph Francis “Buddy” Geist, 88, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 10:55 AM. He was a lifelong resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 9:00 until funeral time at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Philetta Ann Gautreaux Geist; sons, Dr. Eric T. Geist and wife, Beth of Monroe, La., Mark F. Geist and wife, Jackie, David C. Geist, Glen P. Geist and wife, Monique, and Stephen P. Geist, Sr. and wife, Karen; daughter, Donna G. Buch and husband, Chuck of Winnetka, CA; brother, Oswald Geist; sister, Rosemary G. Porche; brother in law, Philip Wayne Gautreaux and wife, Susan; sister in laws, Marilyn Fontenot Geist and Jaqueline (Barrett) Davis; grandchildren, Dr. Jared Geist and wife, Kelly of Shreveport, La., Kristi Pitre and husband, Travis, Brian Geist and fiance’, Brittany of Dallas, TX, Blake Geist, Brittany James and husband, Matthew, Stephen Geist Jr. and wife, Julie, Christopher Geist, Errol Buch, Haley Geist and Erica Buch; great-grandchildren, Mia and Katie Porretto, and Taylor Pitre, Taylor and Sarah Katherine Geist, and Madison James. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Lucille Eleanor Troendle Geist; brother, Lloyd J. Geist, Sr.; sister, Marguerite G. Roper and husband, Emmett; sister in law, Catherine Shephard Geist; brother in laws, Charles Porche, James Barrett, and Warren Davis. He was a parishioner of Maria Immacolata Catholic Church. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1317 for over 50 years and founded "The Doll and Toy Fund" for under privileged children. He served as Grand Knight and as a Faithfull Navigator. He was a long time member of the Krewe of Terreaneans. He was an active Volunteer for the Mended Hearts Program at TGMC. He served his country in the US Army from 1946 until 1948 serving in occupied Japan. He served for 20 years on the Terrebonne Parish School Board and as President of the board. He was an avid LSU and Saints fan regularly attending games for most of his life. He began playing golf in his late 30s and played almost every day until recently when he began devoting most of his time to caring for his loving wife. He loved traveling and visited every state, over 25 countries and six continents. To his family he was quiet hero. A modest man who did his work and supported his family without complaints or expectation of praise. His faith was in God, his family and his country. It has been said that the greatest gift that a father can give to his children is to love their mother. Buddy gave this gift to his children every day.
