Joseph Gonzalez "J.G." Duplantis, Jr., 88, a resident of Houma and a native of Little Caillou, died Sunday May 31, 2009. Visitation will be held at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral time of 11:00 a.m. on June 4, 2009 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. He was born November 18, 1920. He was a 1937 graduate of Terrebonne High School, attended Louisiana State University where he was a member of the ROTC. He was enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1941 where he specialized in chemical warfare. He was a member of the U.S.S. Samuel Chase, APA 26, an attack transport ship. J.G. was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and a friend to many people during his eighty-eight year journey. He was a business owner, land developer and home builder involved in many endeavors including a produce business, a construction business, co-founder of Houma Well Service, founder of RGS supermarkets, owner of Lafourche Concrete, Statewide Trailer Sales, Inc. and Faith Trailer Courts.
He is survived by his children: Wayne A. Duplantis, Sr. and wife, Gloria, Douglas J. Duplantis and wife Deborah, Mary M. Duplantis, Linda A Rodrigue and husband Francis, Michael J. Duplantis, Timothy P. Duplantis and wife Stephanie, Ellen D. Pontiff and husband Kevin, Patrick J. Duplantis, and Glenn T. Duplantis. He is also survived by grandchildren: Wayne, Jr., Brandy, Andrew, Kristi, David, Daniel, Becky, Douglas, Sara, Eric, John, Greg, Jennifer, Matthew, Joshua, Kayla, Amy and Lauren. Surviving Great Granchildren are Rylie, Gavin, Philip and Evan. Great-great Granchildren are Philip, Jr., Morgen and Malina.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Whipple Duplantis; a child, Joseph Duplantis, III; and a grandchild, Don Lirette, his parents, Joseph Gonzalez Duplantis, Sr. and Lillian D. Duplantis, his paternal grandparents, Felecian Eugene Duplantis, Amelia Mary Picou and his maternal grandparents, Perrin and Uphrasia Duplantis.
