Joseph William Ellender

Joseph William Ellender, Sr., 91, died Friday, June 3, 2016 at 12:55 PM. He was a native of Chauvin and resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 9:00 am until funeral time at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc . A Military Service will be held at 10:00 am and funeral service at 11:00 am at Chauvin Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Terrebonne Memorial Park.  He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Georgette "Velma" Lefort Ellender; son, Ross F. Ellender and wife, Sandra; daughters, Jessica Ellender Theriot and husband, Kiel Theriot, Gwendolyn Ellender, and Gredel Ellender D'Souza and husband, Leon D'Souza; grandchildren, Kiel Theriot II, Jordan Theriot, Eric Ellender and wife Colette, Elizabeth Theriot Brodzik and husband, Randy Brodzik, Jaron Ellender and Brett Hebert; great-grandchildren, Jordan S. Theriot, Kristin Fentress, Vayda Ellender, Lala Ellender, Mackenzie and Joshua Theriot, Gavin Theriot, Jessalyn Brodzik, and Grace Ellender.  He was preceded in death by hisparents, Warner and Cecile Pitre Ellender; sons, Joseph "Billy" William Ellender and Boyd Paul Ellender; daughter, Darkus Denise Ellender and Mollie B. Ellender; brother, Kervin Ellender and Ray Ellender; sisters, Julia Esteve and Mae Hebert.   He was a parishioner  of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. He served in the US NAVY during WWII. He learned carpentry while serving in the US Navy. He enjoyed baking bread and cinnamon rolls for family and church functions. He also was a ventriloquist. He enjoyed playing tricks and joking with people. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
