John Pitre Sr.

October 1, 1962 — March 30, 2016

John Joseph Pitre, Sr., 53, a native and resident of Houma, passed away on March 30, 2016. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Chauvin Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Saturday April 2, 2016 at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until service time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Francis Cemetery #2. He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne Walker Pitre; sons, John Jr. and David Pitre; daughter, Maria Pitre; father, Donald Pitre; brothers, Jerome, Eric and wife Cindy, and Greg Pitre; and sister, Kathleen Pitre Cockerham and husband Bobby, all of Houma. He is preceeded in death by his mother, Grace Cecile Abadie Pitre of Edgard, Louisiana. Above all things, he loved his family and put them first in everything. Throughout his two-year battle with brain cancer, that one thing was constant. All of his thoughts and prayers were for his family. He was the type of person who would do anything for someone who needed him, and his friends and family knew him as a faithful, hard-working man who could fix, build, or work on anything. John was a retired truck driver – from 1975–1991 with Pitre Bros. Transit and from 1991–2014 at Saia Motor Freight. He was a parishioner of Maria Immacolata Catholic Church and also regularly attended daily mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He will be greatly missed by so many. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Mary Bird Perkins at 8166 Main Street, Suite 101, Houma LA 70360, (985) 876-9045 or M.D. Anderson for cancer research. Chauvin Funeral Home is honored to care for the Pitre Family.
