Calvin John Buxton, “Coach”, age 58, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016. He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Houma. He is survived by his son Chet Michael Buxton, daughter Erin Buxton Martin and spouse Derek Joshua Martin, brother, Richard H Buxton, Jr., and Chet and Erin’s mother, Donna Fournier Buxton. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard H. Buxton, Sr. and Charmaine Angelo Buxton and brother, Jay E. Buxton. Since 1984 he was employed by Vandebilt Catholic High School where he taught biology, coached the Terrier baseball team and served, for a time, as the school’s athletic director. He was an assistant coach at HL Bourgeois High School and E.D. White High School prior to his time at Vandebilt. Buxton coached the Terrier baseball team to two runner-up State champions in 1992 and 1996 and a State semi-finalist in 2003. He taught and coached hundreds of students during his coaching career and each student had profound meaning for him as a teacher and coach. Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Vandebilt Catholic High School Kolb Center, 209 South Hollywood Road, Houma, La, 70360 beginning at 8:30 AM with Mass at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Coach’s name to Vandebilt Catholic High School.
