Lennie Roy

November 5, 1932 — November 30, 2015

Lennie Joseph Roy, a retired Bell South employee of 30 years and a long-time Terrebonne Parish election poll commissioner, died Sunday after a battle with cancer. He loved family, Dixieland music, LSU sports, food, friends, politics and occasional reflection upon a glass of Crown Royal. An Army veteran himself, Mr. Roy never missed an opportunity to honor veterans by flying his flag, attending events and thanking those who served. He did volunteer work with the Telephone Pioneers, Special Olympics and various groups associated with his high school alma mater, Warren Easton in New Orleans, class of 1953. He attended LSU for two years. Roy and his family moved to Houma in 1973 in a job promotion and transfer for Bell South. He is survived by his wife, Helen Bowles Roy, and three daughters, Suzanne Roy Gravois and husband John of Mansfield, TX, and Katherine Roy Stewart and Cynthia Roy Knight and husband Dennis of Houma. Also, grandchildren Joy Gravois Hanna, Bradley Stewart, Nicholas Gravois and Sean Stewart, and great grandchild Adelyn Hanna. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Joseph Roy, his mother, Irene Perrillaux Roy, and sister, Jean Roy. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Haydel Memorial Hospice staff, Dr. Brian Matherne, The Medical Team, Dr. Robert Alexander and the staff at Terrebonne General Hospital. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. Followed by additional services at Lakelawn Park Mausoleum Cemetery in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Humane Society of Houma-Terrebonne to 40 HMS Drive, Houma, LA, 70364 or TARC, #1 McCord Rd, Houma, LA 70363 in memory of Lennie Roy.
