John Carroll

March 24, 1940 — November 20, 2015

John “Johnny” Clinton Carroll Jr. at the age of 75 peacefully entered into eternal life on 11/20/2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Johnny was a native of Houma and currently a resident of Marrero, LA.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 wonderful and adventurous years, Barbara S. Carroll, as well as his daughter, Vickie H. (Dave) Brown, sons; John C. Carroll III and Patrick J. Carroll, daughter in law Brenda T. Hofstetter. His grandchildren: Jeffrey S. (Stacey) Collins, Laura C. (Sidney) Gonzales, Brooke H. (Cory) O'Bryant, David J. Hofstetter, Dylan M. Hofstetter and Trista V. Collins. His great grandchildren; Sidney IV, Austin and Kylie Gonzales. Sarah Collins, Sophia and Spencer Vitello. He is also survived by a sister; Andree' M. (Royal) Richoux, a brother Joseph “Joey” K. (Abby) Carroll, sister-in-law Doris Jean (Dewight )Rea as well as multiple nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.  Johnny is preceded in death by his father, John Clinton Carroll, Sr., his mother, Maria Davis Millet, and step-father James E. Millet, his brother David Carroll and his two sons Michael W. and Douglas B. Hofstetter, who were waiting with open arms to welcome him home.  He was a parishioner of St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Houma, and a graduate from Nicholls State University. He taught at Terrebonne High School before entering the oil industry. He worked as a directional drilling engineer which allowed him to travel around the world.  Johnny believed that family always came first and made it a point to have family gatherings as often as possible. He set a true example of what a husband, father, and grandfather should be. Johnny was a teacher at heart. He loved to share his knowledge of hunting, fishing, shrimping and passion of cooking with family and friends.  He was the definition of a true southern gentleman, always had a smile on his face and there was never a dull moment when anyone was around him. He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Chauvin Funeral Home 5899 Hwy. 311, Houma, LA 70360.   Funeral services will be held at Chauvin Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 11:30 am. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
