Mabel Kern Chaisson, 97, a lifelong resident of Houma, entered into her eternal rest with her heavenly father at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. Mass will be at noon Saturday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
She is survived by one son, Robert “Bobby” Chaisson and wife, Mary Chaisson, of Houma; one daughter, Beverly Gautreaux and husband, William “Billy” Gautreaux, of Bourg; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin J. Chaisson; her parents, Myrtile Kern and Justilla Mire Kern; one brother, Phillip Kern; and three sisters, Wilma Songe, Orine Samaha and Bella Triche.
She was a second grade Catechism teacher for 51 years at St. Francis de Sales and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a nurse’s aide during World War II with the American Red Cross.
She was a homemaker and a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral.
