Shirley Munson

Shirley Raye Keyes Munson, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7th in Natchitoches, LA. She was born in 1936 in Gilbert, Louisiana to Betty Lee Pauline (Howell) and Walter Patton Keyes. She married her high school sweetheart, James Munson, and together they had 5 children. They raised their family in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Shirley later returned to school and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeast Louisiana University. She worked at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, LA for over 20 years, retiring at age 72. She was actively involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sons, James Louis Munson, Jr. and John Raymond Munson. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Laura Ellen McPeake and Gloria Jean Brady, and her brother Raymond Kermit Keyes. She is survived by her husband, James Louis Munson, Sr., brother John Wiley Keys and wife Sandra, and by her daughters: Leah Broadwater and her husband Preston Broadwater, Michelle Munson Hall, and Lolli Gonzales and her husband Jeffrey Gonzales. “Gran” is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Laura Rogers (Ron) , Brandon Rogers (Amber), Gabrielle, Maddy, Izzy, Logan, Leyton Gonzales, Brantley, Kyle, and Zachary Hall, Shannon Pigron(Jimmy), Ariel, Emily Munson, Ryan Spillman, Windy Vaccaro (Christopher). and great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 10:00 am Weaver Cemetery in Flora, Louisiana. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 1:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3702 Hwy 311 in Houma, LA. Pallbearers are Preston Broadwater, Jeffery Gonzales, Brandon Rogers, Ron Dellinger, Lucas Cheatwood, Kyle Smith. “And now I bid unto all, farewell.
