Albert I. (Sugar) Guidry, 87, a native of Reserve, LA, and a 53-year resident of Houma, passed away peacefully at his home among family members Friday, May 1, 2015, at 4:30 PM.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 10:00am until noon at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Noon at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church.
Burial: St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.
He is survived by his children, Albert Guidry, Jr., and wife Charlotte Reding Guidry, of Houma, Yvonne Guidry Rome and fiance’ Tim Watson, of Houma, Cheryl Guidry Watts and husband, Peter, of Morristown, NJ, Brenda Guidry Riviere and husband, Christopher, of Thibodaux, Sheila Guidry Britsch and husband, Del, of Metairie, Thomas Guidry and wife Paula Bonaventure Guidry, of New Roads, and Kevin Guidry and wife Jessica Lapeyrouse Guidry, of Houma, 19 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, one brother, Julian, and two sisters, Inez Guidry Montz and Theresa Guidry Hotard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Boe’ Guidry, his parents, Edwin Guidry and Eva Graugnard Guidry; seven brothers, Edwin, Jr., Marion, Leon, James, Paul, Francis, and John; and one sister, Celeste Guidry.
He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church.
Agriculture
Albert grew up on Terre Haute Plantation in Reserve, LA, was a graduate of The St. Paul's School in Covington, a graduate of LSU with a degree in mechanical engineering, and worked for South Coast Corporation for many years until his retirement. He then worked as a mechanical engineering consultant for several years. Albert was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for 53 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, St. Bernadette School Board, Vandebilt Catholic High School Board president for three years, and was inducted into the Vandebilt Catholic Hall of Fame in 1999. He also served on the Houma-Terrebonne Airport Commission Board for a number of years.
The family would like to thank his hospice nurse, Carol Haydel, and his caretaker, Celeste LeBoeuf, for their care and kindness received during the past few months.
